My headcanon is that a scientist tried to recreate a prehistoric Cybertronian dragon - like in 'Beast Hunters' - but they kept turning out as mindless monsters. So he decided to mix in the CNA (Cyber/Nano Algorithms) of one of the most serious and responsible Transformers: Ultra Magnus, and presto: the best, indeed the very best, of both worlds.
