I made a journal entry today about the troubles that wombats find themselves in, due to the carelessness of humans.

In addition to being hit by cars, attacked by farmers and having their territory taken away by development, wombats are also prone to a type of mange that is highly contagious and results in anemia and eventually death (not to mention terrible itching and fur loss).

Fortunately, there are people like the ones at Wombat Rise Sanctuary in South Australia that are dedicated to helping these guys out.

They would really appreciate your donations and so would I. For a donation of $5 or more, you can be sent your very own wombat plushie. Wombat Rise has some pictures of some of the wombats in their care:

You can "sponsor" a wombat and they will send you updates on your wombat's progress! I will send you a plushie that matches the wombat that you are sponsoring, and you can have a little guy to hug when you are sent updates. Bob (the guy that runs the sanctuary) assured me that he is very diligent about sending updates.
