An excerpt from a Visonian television broadcast intercepted in the late 1982 in the neighbouring Helicia. Here is the Minister of Enlightenment, Ardon Kova Sapana, clarifying a situation in the capital city, Livasere, as beforehand insiders reported the increasingly deteriorating situation in the country.
On 14 December 1982, Andras Siuro, Visonia's head of state was shot while he was arriving on the inauguration of the Visonian Navy Museum. He was attacked by Mano Giuron, a dissenting member of the Tangiura (presidential guard). Siuro was immediately incapacitated after a couple of rounds hit his back, while Giuron was successfully immobilized by another Tangiura personnel. The country was left in a power vacuum and the situation in the public sphere quickly spiraled out of control as the murder attempt was captured on live television.
Thousands of disgruntled people poured into the street of the capital and other major cities in the next 24 hours, calling for the ultimate conclusion of totalitarian rule by whoever was in charge of the country. General Kempa Sakis, the Deputy General-Secretary of the ruling SZS-RKV party became the de facto head of the interregnum. He was met with pressure from all sides, he basically refrained from taking any direct action against the protesters and focused on keeping the bodies of the government running in order. At the time, Sakis only mobilized the police force to keep the protesters from being unruly, but such efforts were in vain as the situation was escalating so rapidly. More people entered the protests, and by the evening, almost 100,000 people (roughly 1/10th of the population of Livasere) attended the action. On 1900 hours the first sounds of gunfire were heard and it was at this point that the protests turned into a riot. Sakis eventually mobilized a battalion of infantry to deal with the quarreling.
The midnight was completely restless until the next day. On 1200 hours Andras Siuro regained consciousness and immediately took over the supreme leadership of the country. Confidence in Siuro was retained in the military and he ordered almost all divisions of the army and the navy to deal with the protesters at all costs, and by the next hours, hundreds of tanks rolled in into hot spots of the cities affected by the protests. It was clearly apparent that Siuro had declared a war against his own people as the military suppressed the protests with brute force; the tanks weren't shy to fire its shells against crowds of people.
While the majority of the crowds had been dispersing itself out of fear during the end of the day, the protests remained for a week. Order was completely restored on 22 December 1982. More than 2,000 unarmed civilians lost their lives in the protests, and it remained as the bloodiest protest in post-WWII history of Levropia.
NB: Ironically enough, this announcement by the Minister of Enlightenment was the first full-color broadcast in the country. The release was planned to be held on 5 January 1983, the 20th anniversary of the founding of the SZS-RKV party, but the protests hastened the schedule significantly.
