My first thought is that someone clearly erred on that crossing over a creek (or you've just had a very rare flood). In any case, at least the destruction didn't hit the school as streets are much easier to repair than buildings (got a situation on a freeway here where they're having to repair/replace two lanes of a bridge (it's four lanes each way) after a tank truck fire totally destroyed a section - pickup driven by a drunk driver hit a full gasoline tanker). I'm just glad that no one was injured or killed here.
Regarding nothing to show the size of the hole- Those cement cylinders in there are MASSIVE. I know what they are for- they are for sewer systems- mainly just runoff, but they are the radius of a manhole. Glad you are OK though- the winds have been picking up here in Ohio for the past few hours... gonna get nasty soon.
