I know this is quite a break from my usual material, but it managed to fall into my scope and I thought, hey, why not? This is an illustration for a Harryhausen tribute published by Jim Main. I provided the pencils, Jeff Austin did the ink work. I've been told Jeff and I are still remembered in some circles as one of the great art teams in comic book illustration. It was also for Jim Main that Jeff and I created the series "Besty the Bookwriter" which is ultimately the genesis of my solo career's first major success. For that series, we did a parody of THE WIZARD OF OZ. I needed a stand-in for the Cowardly Lion and invented Daisy the Milksop Mouse. She was my first "femanimal" character and it was because she was so much fun to draw that I later developed Crissy Carrots, which became the basis of Cartoon Cuties. Jeff and I still teamed up from time to time after that, like for this drawing depicting a key scene from THE VALLEY OF GWANGI (1969).

Fine matinee adventure stuff, but unfortunately the release was handled very poorly by Warner Brothers (reportedly going through a transition in leadership at the time). It was barely advertised and was saddled on a double bill with a film of different rating, thus almost making sure it could never find it's audience. Most worth a look, though.
