Not only can roos control the pouch muscles hold on the joey, it can also absorb the fluids when the joey's "relieves" himself... wel most of it.

Concidering many live in arid dry region, they have to conserve water in many, unusual ways. Besides I think Ober's date wouldn't think much of this since she did have a joey before.
