Speculative Skull Island Bullshit: Ghost ant
Like other giant ant species on Skull Island, the ghost ants form hives of few individuals and low caste differentiation. Ghost ants live in extensive burrows which they usually only leave during the night. They are generalistic omnivores and will pick up anything sufficiently nutritious they encounter, but prefer to stay away from bigger animals. Generally, they appear to be passive and are hard to provoke; the major exception is coming too close to their eggs. While their jaws aren't particularly strong, their large size and extraordinarily painful venom is more than enough to take care of such intruders. The ghost ants themselves are protected by a tough exoskeleton that partially extends into robust spines. Due to their behaviour, they are one of the less dangerous species living on the island; the bigger danger are their burrows, which might collapse underneath a traveller's feet and present its inhabitants easy food if the fall causes heavy enough injuries or turns out to be lethal.
