really old sketchbook art cover
It was going to be a collected sketches mini-zine kind of thing from around 1980 with a fairly early version of Erma. I'll likely dredge up some even earlier proto-Albedo work from the '70s. The alphabet is an early version, which would go through some changes and not really settle down until about '88

I see I'm not the only one who fiddled with their own custom alphabets back in the day. I was inspired by the script in The Last Starfighter, but went for a more modular, Asian grammar.
The comic book Legion of Super Heroes, set in the 30th Century, also adopted an invented alphabet to fit into their fictional, thousand-years-hence story line; complete with key, provided in the back of a certain issue (#313, I believe. I'll have to go look).

I downloaded a copy of the ALBEDO.TTF font back around the mid-90s from someone's webpage, now long gone, and have kept copying it from one computer to another over the years; I even use it from time to time. I'm sure it's still out there on the intarwebz.
It's not perfect, naturally, and I've always thought whoever did it could have put the shift key to more use, so that. for example, the two different forms for the letter "a" (short and long) would be "lower" and "upper" case a. The same for "s" and "sh" and so on.
