Some Dragon Age Cards
These weren't commissions but just some random testing and something to let folks know what the style is going to look like when I start taking orders for cards next week.
Top left we have Uriel as a Templar looking none too happy. I wonder if he'd end up being one of the types that ends up protecting the mages from the Chantry more than protecting the world from Mages.
Next to that we have a random critter dressed in Hawke armor. I love the pointy spiky gloves and general look of the armor in that game and imitated it a little.
The subject came up of what Three would be in the DA world, and I've always seen her as a roguish ranger sort who lives on the fringes of society, so here she is in some half disguise fear getting ready to lay some beatdown.
And then people wondered what Gen would be, and after much consternation I decided on Gray Warden. I don't like inserting myself into fantasy worlds where I'm suddenly more awesome than I am in real life as I don't like playing escapist stuff like that, but given no choice I'd take warden, even if it means a guaranteed horrible death. The only other option would be a fishmonger or something...
I was in a mood and ended up going to town on coloring these, so there's a lot of shading and highlighting effects that might not show through in the scan. for example the shadowed darkspawn horde in the bottom right card has a bunch of glittery red eyes peeking out.
Yet another fun stream, folks! You excited for DA day yet?
(Also, whomever wanted some of these cards and whomever sent me a payment for one, could you let me know which one you wanted? The email didn't specify...)

I am so, so, so tempted to buy one of these from you and I definately might. Brielle would totally be a happy go lucky smash-everything-that-moves warrior with a sword bigger than she was. <3 I'll send you a note later when I figure things out, but as always, your art is fantastic. <3 I lover grumpy templar Uriel.
This is a nice quartet of cards! The extra enthusiasm really shows in this set, I don't blame everyone trying to snatch them up. I like the horde of monsters lurking in the shadows in Grey Warden Gen's card, it's a nice touch with a lot of detail. GW Gen looks like she's been wandering the Dark Roads for a long time and is in need of a nap, though, but I certainly wouldn't want to sleep down there.
Templar Uriel is simply badass. There's a knight you don't want to piss off (or even mildly annoy, for that matter). If I had to guess as to the source of his grumpiness, though, I would wager that he's in a game with the Lilarcor mod activated, and he's stuck carrying the talkative +4 greatsword.
I'm guessing that this is either rogue Hawke or mage Hawke, given the relative litheness of the armor. Regardless of class, I'm not quite sure what to think of a person who makes, let alone wears, any combat gear that involves getting up close and personal while savagely slashing at your opponent with clawed gauntlets, yet also has a dashing collar trimmed in thick fur. Gives a nice lycanthropic look, though.
And of course, Three is awesome. She doesn't even have to try by this point.
As for ordering the cards for Dragon Age day, I take it that you'll be accepting the orders and money next week? Don't want to jump the gun here.

I'm planning to open the books for cards on Wednesday of next week. As for how Gen looks, I imagine this incarnation as having been a warden for awhile and getting closer to the Calling: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Gre.....en#The_Calling
It probably sounds morbid, but I figure as a warden she knows they'll take her down eventually someday so she's come to grips with it and isn't afraid anymore. I also know enough people with warrior mindsets (soldiers and policemen) to understand the idea of putting your life on the line to keep the things you hold dear safe. I don't really see myself as a warrior deep down, but mayhaps in another life and different circumstances.... Leastwise I know that if I had something important enough to protect I'd be willing to give everything I had to protect it.
And THIS is why I love games with compelling storylines and characters (THANK YOU BIOWARE!). You can vicariously become something larger than life, be that hero that we only see in our dreams, take those risks that only those with foolhardy courage would ever take.
And every time you play, you put part of your real self into that fictional character, through the choices you make and the way you play the game. So, in a sense, you not only become the character, but the character becomes you.
Although my main character in DA is a mage...

It was games like this (and my nervousness about self insertion) that eventually made me solidify the character of Three. I think I started substituting her in games like Myst where you're a faceless, voiceless observer. and it just sort of grew from there.
