Adjusting his jacket slightly, Tai regards himself in the mirror one last time, smoothing out the synth-skin sleeve adorning his left arm as he does. Another year, another Officer's Ball. Another week of music, drinks, dancing, some promotions and medal awards...and increasingly crass behaviour as the night goes on and the press eventually bugger off to let those attending fully unwind.
At least he was getting less strange looks with every one, as he ceased being one of the youngest Captains in the Star Navy, and as more people started to forget the fact he had functionally died a few years previous, though that fact would inevitably resurface once someone asked him what he got the Ruby Nova medal for, his Navy's highest award. He almost considered not wearing it at one point, though a swift smack around the back of the head from his XO knocked that notion aside. Every medal had a story, and it was only right those stories be told over a few drinks.
Besides, it's not every day that someone saves the lives of thousands, and lives to tell the tale later.
And now he thinks about it, he might see about asking the captain of the Avenger, his ship's sister vessel, to dance this time around. A feisty Enoran kitsune, that one.

Spent a decent bit of time designing those medal ribbons myself, wanting to be different from any RL ones while still resembling familiar patterns and shapes.
