“The rabbits went and found homes, using the same guy as you did.” Mr. Badger said, standing with his wife. “The moles and my family weren’t as lucky. I don’t know where we’ll go.”
Mr. Fox was pleased but troubled at the same time. Things were going well, but still, not everything was finished.
“How are you doing with the Jets?” Mrs. Badger asked.
Mr. Fox smiled. “It’s perfect. They gave us a tree, feed us whatever they have, and have even babysat Jacob.”
Mrs. Badger put a hand over her head, smiling. “That’s such a blessing.”
Mr. Fox nodded. “I wish there was something we could do for you guys. I know it’d be tough for the moles, since they’d naturally want to dig up everything around them, but maybe I could have you guys stay with us. There’d be a couple changes, like we’d have to exercise to keep our snarling habits down, but other than that…”
Mr. Badger nodded, considering everything. “Hmm, do you think they’d let us live on their property?”
“I’m sure they would.” Mr. Fox said.
Mr. Badger turned to his wife, who nodded.
“Ok then, let’s do it. Just for a couple days, then whatever the Jets say, we’ll do.”
Mr. Fox nodded, smiling. “Alright. You’ll like the Jets.” He turned to his nephew. “Kristopherson, help Mrs. Badger with her bags. We’re gonna’ have to find a way to get back home in a much safer way.”
Mr. Fox poked his nose up to the manhole cover, sniffing; couldn’t smell any car exhaust, which usually runs at liberty during a wreck. Poking an eye out from the hole, he could see the a couple police cars had blocked off the road. Perhaps something was still above them. No one was looking, though. Now was their chance.
The four parents helped the kids out then rushed out of the hole and into the bushes by the curb. Turns out the cars had moved, and the drivers were talking to the policemen. Mr. Fox turned to the Badgers. “Follow me.” Mr. Fox said, running off towards home.
The two Foxes and the Badgers got back to the Jets in a matter of minutes. Mr. Badger met the two Jet’s, shaking hands. The two were thrilled to see more company, and did all they could to make the two comfortable, by both feeding them and encouraging their decision to stay for awhile. Mr. Fox set up rooming for the Badgers in their home, knowing he and his wife could easily sleep on the floor for a couple days. The Badger kids could play with the Fox kids. For the sake of safety, the badger kids would be monitored by everyone. All the kids went on the Fox’s afternoon run, tiring them all out successfully.
Later that evening, when everyone was settling in for the night, Mr. Fox went to Mr. Jet. “Thanks for letting the Badger’s stay here Mr. Jet.”
“Oh, it’s no trouble for US, we’re just thinking about you and your family.”
“Well, if all goes downhill, they’ll only be here two days.”
Mr. Jet nodded.
“Hey, have you seen the rest of my family? Did they say when they’d be home?”
“Nope.” Mr. Jet answered, “Your wife told us it’d only take a few hours, and that they’d make it back before dinner.”
Mr. Fox looked into the bushes behind his house. Something was wrong then. Dinner had just been finished.
