CHUNK- Ker clank
CHUNK- Ker clank
CHUNK- Ker clank... Ow...
The slamming of gears, the slowly biting cold, the smell of Pippy's vehicle running, the low power beeping of my armor, it's all driving me mad!
Despite my best efforts, I was slowing down... The weight, the exhaustion, and my leg still stung. I now wish I had opted for heavier gear. At least a battlesuit would have had painkillers...
Pippy was driving slightly ahead of me still, but I could see his face glance back occasionally. I partly wanted to ask him to go on ahead... I'll catch up! Eheh...
Grimacing as my armor leans on me again, I hear a whistle from Pippy. His vehicle slowed, and he pointed to a part in the trees. He started to turn, but I squeaked out!
"What? No, no, there's more daylight..! I'm fine, Pippy, really!"
He couldn't understand me; I knew that in the back of my mind. But his face leaned out to look up at me. I wasn't sure what I expected... But his eyes lingered with mine for a prolonged moment.
Understanding..?
Just a few days ago, I was sure he hated me, but now he looked up at my hunched form with worry...
Setting a hand on my leg, I whined out slightly. Pippy nodded, motioning ahead before turning into the woods. I winced at each snap of a twig his vehicle ran over. Paranoia has set in, even with no more metal birds stalking the skies.
A part of me wondered what would happen if we ran into another Rynar. This was their territory, yet it seemed they weren't patrolling..? Since the first day, I haven't seen one... I'm not sure whether to be relieved or terrified by that.
My eyes trailed up to the cloudy sky. Were the metal birds to blame for that? Even the Rynar before seemed scared of them...
Pippy had stopped his truck a little ways away from a large water pond. Leaning down, I hesitated as I knelt over the water. My reflection was oddly clear, lacking distorting ripples.
I tried to smile, yet my tired eyes and gaunt face made this little more than a slight difference. It had just been a few days, but I felt like I'd been here for months... Wiping my eyes, I perked up when I heard a door close. Looking over, I tried to smile at Pippy, forcing effort with strength I barely had.
He flashed me a quick smile, but I could tell he was tired, too. Though he'd offer his thumbs up, I mimicked it and looked back to the water.
Going in for a drink... I realized I was grinning ear to ear... Still exhausted, but just the tiniest interaction left me looking like a goof... Turning to look at Pippy again, he hesitated before saying something. I had no idea what he said, but it sounded reassuring, and I followed up with an exhausted squeak.
"Thanks Pippy..."

Oooo, another part out!
Can't wait for little Pippy to treat his giant mouse friend (soon to be giant mouse gf) with some first aid with the medical kit he found. I could imagine the relief she'll finally have and the big snuggles she'll be giving to Warren afterwards as thanks. ;3
I'm enthralled with this series and can't wait for more. :D
