Sitting at someone's encampment at the Escondido Renaissance faire, Jerry Abuan managed to snap this picture of my darling Dorian and I.
I'm part of a Faerie guild, and though it can be frowned upon in Renaissance faires, the Fae were REAL to the people during that time. My character's name is Aithne (Little Fire in Celtic), and she is the Glaistig. The Glaistig is the only FEMALE Satyr in recorded mythological history. She is also a water nymph, but seems like a half Satyr, half Succubus. It is said that she lures young men to dance with her at the sides of rivers and lakes before feasting upon them, Vampire-like, and disposing their bodies in the water. She also has a sweeter side, which will protect herds of sheep or care for the elderly in exchange for things such as food or drink. There is a myth that in a small farming village, a young boy put scalding hot milk in the rock where they made offerings. The milk burned the Glaistig and she fled to another village. Normally the Glaistig is supposed to wear a long, flowing green dress to try to cover her goat-like attributes, but what fun is that when you have full on goat legs?! It would also be very impractical in the heat of faire.
