Taking a trip back to Andur. Now in the 14th century fennecs are generally rural semi-nomadic folks who live in the interior. However a rather sizable population of them has emigrated to the Sultan's city and now call it home. And to think it all started with one little fennec. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1129218/
Being primarily herders and hunters in origin fennecs have a naturally affinity for animals and raising them. So when many fennecs came to Andur looking for work they tended to gravitate to jobs involving them http://www.furaffinity.net/view/919274/ . While some continued the tradition keeping herds of gunpas, shaggy capybara-like critters, others have found other forms of livestock to raise.
Now for the 14th century Andur is rather urban area http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4816484/ so many of the fennecs looked for animals that they could raise in a relatively small area. One of the favorite choices has been chickens. In fact there is an old multi-story, Roman style apartment complex that the fennecs have slowly taken over lock, stock, and barrel and have converted into a chicken ranch. They've erected gates and screen on the lower levels so the chickens can't get out and the fennecs,a hundred or more, live on the upper floors. Every day they gather eggs and whatever stock they want to cull from the flocks and take them to the markets. Any downy feathers they pluck from birds they sell to pillow and cushion makers. The quill feathers they sell to scribes, and with the war with Baghdad Caliphate now raging there has even been a demand for the quills for fletching. Even though the fletchers admit they are hardly ideal for arrows. However the Sultan's army is needing hundreds of thousands of arrows to carry out the war so all sources are being tapped.
One of the interesting tales that has arose as result of fennec chicken ranch is that one of their closest neighbors is local mosque. For awhile the Imam was rather annoyed because every time he'd climb to the top of mosque's minaret to call for prayer all the cocks from the chicken ranch would start crowing. He was very worried that faithful were not hearing his call for prayer. However people seemed to be showing up on time anyways. When he quizzed his flock on how they could hear his calls over all the crowing the answer was simple. The faithful didn't listen for the Imam's call they waited until the fennecs cocks started calling and they knew it was time for prayer. The Imam thought about it for a moment and decided that Allah worked in mysterious ways and left it at that.

Gah! posted reply to wrong person! Take two. At least they are not geese http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3142251/
It is interesting since Andur is far away from the Holy Lands and the Med it has avoided much of the politics and religious bickering that has gripped much of the Middle East. Also it generally practices an early form of Islam which does not have as much baggage attached to it.
