It was originally recorded by Danny Kaye in 1950, though the song was written by Fred Heatherton in 1944. It was covered by a few artists afterwards. I did find the performer of this particular version, I think, but the name escapes me (the MP3, tagged with MusicBrainz, is on my other computer). It featured on a Monty Python show, but they never did their own cover of it, so the copyright at the end of the animation is incorrect. :p
I was also fortunate enough to grab a scan of the original sheet music for it as well (spelling it 'Cocoanut', as was common in the 1940s).
This has to be one of my favourite 'novelty' songs. ^.^
