I dont know about that. I don't want to turn this into a "I hate my life" comment.
Generally I'm at work at 0600 ish. At least you can tell people you did something that mattered to the corps! Heh, I don't think I'll mention to anyone when I get out that I was in... only because I don't want to explain all I did was fill out paperwork and not go on convoys.

Indeed it is. Try spending 8 days out in Hawthorne (where they apparently filmed the movie "The Hills Have Eyes) without showering, tired as hell from all the ranges and lack of sleep, either sweating your balls off or freezing to death, and after driving 9 hours back home in a small bus filled with unwashed bodies. fun.
Doesn't matter how you slice it, life in the field sucks. At least we find ways to make it fun though.
