Made a complete remake of this guy https://www.furaffinity.net/view/15008385/ awhile back, so I figured I should finally post him. Main antagonist for one of my stories.
In his past life, the Messenger was a scholar and mage who witnessed countless, world-destroying wars being waged over petty matters during his lifespan, but believed that a day will come when all wars will cease, and all beings will live together in harmony. He also peered beyond the veil that separates the world of the living from the world of the dead, realizing that while there is indeed an afterlife where those who die can rest, there's also a darker, dreadful realm inhabited by monstrous beings that seek to turn afterlife into the wasteland of pain and suffering like their own realm. Maddened by this revelation that there is going to be an eternal conflict between opposing forces in the universe, the sorcerer ventured beyond his universe, hoping to find one that might live up to his expectations.
What he found instead, was an all-encompassing presence between universes, a sort of living void. An embodiment of entropy and death... a natural, neutral counter-balance to all of existence. While this void was alive, it had no mind, no intent. It was simply a force meant to counter-balance the forces of creation. So the sorcerer decided to merge with this void, absorbing it's forces into his body, and becoming an Eldritch being of unimaginable power, naming himself Messenger of the Void. With these powers, he set a plan into motion; return to his universe and eradicate all forms of life in it. If the existence itself means that there will always be someone who wants to conquer, kill, destroy and make others suffer, then cessation of existence would mean that his dream of everlasting peace would finally come true. He projected his intent and will through the void, giving birth to monstrous abominations known as Void Entities, which would serve as his armies. However, he could no longer properly enter the physical universe, beyond being able to communicate with the beings who reside in it. In order to enter the physical universe again, he requires a sacrificial tribute; a magic wielder of great strength, whose accumulated power would be released upon their death, which he could then absorb to give himself a physical body.
However, every time he would make his way to the physical universe, he would be opposed by a band of champions, whose combined powers would decimate his forces and send him reeling back into the void from which he came, often suffering such injuries that it takes him centuries to recover. Nonetheless, he refuses to give up on his goal, going back to assembling his worshippers and tasking them with finding a new sacrificial tribute...
