Another kind off off the cuff sketch. Done with relatively little planning.
Scene of Northland's largest city, and its harbor full of wooden sailing ships. Because the creatures in the ocean can be much larger than most ships in this world, and the hum of an engine will often draw them in to "prey" on said ship, most craft going out to sea don't rely mainly on engines. Instead they use comparatively quiet sails. This had the accidental plus of keeping them relatively safe from the national government's mismanagement of fuel resources, which at times crippled transportation in the country. Motorized craft do exist, but are limited to shallow coastal areas where the threat of predation is much lower.
