As highly-intelligent twins, Rin and Michelle are very closely knit, sharing a lot of the same interests, hobbies, abilities, and talents including playing and programming synthesizers and drum machines, playing multiplayer video games, and repairing electronic devices and computers. Rin is 20 minutes younger than Michelle, and although Rin has obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), Michelle doesn't. As such, Michelle is always there to comfort Rin whenever he feels his compulsions start to take control, although Rin is able to keep his compulsions in check 99.9% of the time. In 1980, they received their first electronic musical instruments; Rin has a Minimoog Model D synthesizer from 1972, and Michelle has a Roland TR-808 drum machine, which was a new arrival at the time. Soon after, Rin and Michelle both developed a custom circuit that would allow Michelle's 808 to trigger the filter envelope on the Minimoog, creating one of the first drum machine-based "sequencers" on Planet Vasti.

Rin and Michelle gained their Aura abilities to manipulate electricity after they both had a linked dream about Rin being shock-tortured by Marcellus Simonson. This dream woke both of them out of a deep sleep with shivers running down their spines and coursing throughout their nervous systems. Though Rin saw kaleidoscopic patterns interspersed with his surroundings, Michelle didn't see any such hallucinations. Rin first used his abilities to help his friend Seiji Konokama by jump starting his 1984 Oldsmobile 442, while Michelle first used hers to help test surge suppressors manufactured by Konokama Technology.

While on the operating table in 1986 after being involved with an explosive shakedown at Fairport Harbor Marina, Rin briefly experienced death. However, he was revived soon after at the will of Vastina, and much of the blood he lost was replaced via a transfusion given to him by his very girlfriend, Alisha, who happens to have the same blood type as Rin. Rin's revival marked the beginning of his immortal life as a kitsune with the ability to magically and painlessly split his single tail off into as many individual tails as he wants, whenever he wants, and the ability to merge them back into one as he sees fit. Michelle, on the other hand, was given the gift of immortality while asleep.

Rin's programming prowess and Michelle's computer engineering skills collaboratively led the technological fight against Marcellus's heavily-guarded fortress, a castle which he had stolen from the Muramasa royal family in 1990. While Michelle stayed behind and tended to Hayao's imprisoned and malnourished family, Rin and his girlfriend Zarana took the final stand against Marcellus on the roof of the fortress.

Rin has been married to Elly, Zarana, and Ninetales twins Boshi and Alisha since 2010, while Michelle has been married to Christian Fairborn since 2009.
It is also noted that Rin and Michelle take their names from two of their parents' favorite locations on Planet Vasti: Cape Rinzler, and Misheru Forest.
