I’m proud of this lil guy. He turned out great! His height is approximately like 3/4ths of an Arizona can. Because I’m too lazy to find my ruler rn.
I wanted to craft a doll of Scratch. He’s fully hand stitched because it’d be a pain to set my sewing machine up. It might be a bit messier, but it makes him so much more special. His head, neck, arms and legs are made from sculpey living doll clay. It took me 3 days - On the first day i made the legs, then spent the rest of the day trying to model his face in clay, but I didn’t like any of them! The next day though I got it right first thing in the morning, so I baked all the pieces I had. I then sanded them with some different grade nail files and painted them with acrylics.
I didn’t think about knee joints, but i planned ahead with the arms. I wanted those elbows to move so he could do his dumb little salute! Crafting it in clay was pretty easy, but figuring out how to put the bits together was trickier. I figured I could hide the mechanism with the arm bolts he has, the mechanism specifically being some more wire I twisted and then cut down. I baked the bolts next. I wanted to make sure they fit just right, so I just rolled up a little ball and pressed it directly onto the wire. I drew a line through them, then carefully got them out. When baked and painted, all i had to do was add glue and they popped on with a perfect fit!
His soft torso which was once a sock has a wire frame inside, which the arms and legs are sewn into. They’re held in place with buttons, as I like that ragdoll aesthetic and didn’t have any better ideas. They’re stitched through the little with gray embroidery thread. To seal the paint to the clay, I sprayed it a bit too heavy handedly with Mr. Super Clear, which I usually seal doll faces in. I ran out of it just before spraying the little bolts, so those are unsealed.
There’s a little K on the bottom of his right foot to indicate i made him. His waistband was an old shirt, stitched with matching navy embroidery thread. His tails are a wire I stitched to the band, and I wanted to do something funky (and I was tired of hand stitching). I repurposed this red denim from ripped jeans, making sure i got extra fringe. Then I folded it in half and made a bunch of cuts almost all the way through, leaving me with strips i could tie onto the tail with knots! I think it makes him look very charming.
EDIT: OH NO THE PIC IS SIDEWAYS XO
