I was inspired by Legolas to create an elegant and elf-like furry character. Who better to take the place of an elf than a fennec fox with those fabulous ears! This is an acrylic and gouache painting.

LOL Thanks--I'm glad you approve, as I can tell you're an expert! Like I said in my description--the fennec seemed the perfect candidate to be an elf!

Only the Peter Jackson elves are wistful and quiet, Tolkein described the elves as merry folk, quick to laughter and even had them siging humorous songs at Bilbo's expense in The Hobbit.

But I have to admit--it was mostly the ears for me, that and the elegany beauty of fennecs.

It's a funny thing, but the art history books here, (when talking about Albrecht Durer e.g) always refer to gouache as "body colour", yet tutors and everyone else calls it gouache. I suppose it's because of the chalk and the fact that it's not a stain like watercolours.

Gouache is actually qualified as a watercolor--but an opaque watercolor. The International Watercolor Society even allows gouache paintings entry into their competitions. Also like watercolors, they can become reactive when they get wet--so I always seal my paitings with picture varnish to protect them.

This has got to be one of the best fennec furry pics that I've seen so far. And probably one of the best pics I've gotten as of yet. And ya I do have a real fennec sleeping on the couch behind me at this moment (his name is Abu) ^.^
