Speculative Skull Island Bullshit: False crocodile
Skull Island's rivers teem with unusual and dangerous fauna, with the false crocodile being one of its minor representatives. They are not the largest river dwellers, but make it up for it with their surprising agility and tenacity when pursuing their prey, often running after it far inland. The odd leg anatomy might be the most noticeable difference to real crocodiles, but the differences stretch much further, including their scales, shapes of nostrils and a number of other traits. The Monarch scientists who had examined those creatures noted the striking similarities to the Philippines skeleton, concluding that these aren't crocodiles at all, but distant jira relatives. Similar to their gigantic relative, false crocodiles are highly territorial and do not tolerate conspecifics near them. They are the most likely source of a number of Iwi legends about werecrocodiles, considering their uncanny ability to stand upright when surveying the area or as a means of intimidation.
