After the great fire and Scar’s betrayal of his hyena henchmen, most of those mangy poachers were never seen again in the Pridelands after the fire engulfed Pride Rock. Especially not their leader Shenzi. Nobody in the Pridelands seems to know what really happened to her. Some say that she was killed in the fire, roasted alive trying to rip out Scar’s throat. Some say that she got out with the others, only to be killed by Zira when she came after the hyenas for failing to protect her beloved. Some say that she was forced out of her position, settled nearby, only to pass away in childbirth to a new generation of hyenas in the outlands.

However, there are some birds who will tell that in their travels from the distant jungles, that they witnessed a small group of hyenas living off the meerkats and other small animals that dwell within, led by their wiser, laid back, and very pregnant matriarch, carrying the pups of an unknown consort. She talks to anyone who’d get close enough not to be her food, telling of a past full of mistakes, but a new, hopeful future in this new paradise. They say they’ve never seen a hyena so happy, strutting the jungle floor with her pup filled belly swaying, humming to herself and speaking softly to old and new hyena faces. Whoever this hyena is….it definitely ain’t Shenzi. She’s mean…right?
