No its not a bad idea to experiment with various colours.
The colours you used here work well for a dawn or a dusk scene I think. I do want to ask if the objects on the left heading into the background are artificial constructs or if they are natural vegetation? Either way they are interesting.

The tree things receding into the distance look somewhat like street lights, just a few minutes away from being lit up. Perhaps they might have some kind of ghostly luminescence when it gets fully dark. The animal (what do you call it again?) looks rather despondent, with a hint of morbid curiosity about the green matter it seems to be dropping (or reaching to pick up?).
