I snapped this at just the right time while at the Keeneland sale of two-year-olds in training. He almost looks like he could be the poster boy for the sale itself against that background! These horses move so fast-- they cover an 8th of a mile in 10 seconds at this sale-- that I was amazed this one came out so crisp. Most of my shots from the day were blurry in some place or another. Granted, it's not perfect, but for not having a tripod or a telephoto lens, I'll take it!
EDIT: I don't want to hear anything about your personal opinions on racing or training/racing two-year-olds-- all such comments will be hidden. For the record, I don't believe any two-year-old horse should be pushed this fast, this soon, for any reason. However, it doesn't mean I can't take pictures of beautiful, powerful, graceful animals when I'm required to attend the sale.
Thank you.

It took years of arguing and fighting about a horse having all fours off the ground. It was not until the invention of the camera that final proof was made by Edweard Muybridge in 1878. It took multiple cameras back then to accomplish what you did here in a single moment. A great shot. A running horse is poety in motion! }:=)

I don't know.... Every time I see a thoroughbred running full out, I just imagine them squealing out "WEEEEEEEEEE!" ^_^
I live within a drive-able distance to Saratoga in upstate NY. Hope I can get a chance to go a couple times this summer.
Oh and BTW, my new favourite movie is Secretariat. ^_^

A little of everything right now; I'm currently interning as an assistant trainer, which means I pony horses to and from the track, groom, hotwalk, take horses to the races, do laundry, clean tack--- just about everything except exercise ride and make any actual training decisions right now.
