As I was working on the written portion of my massive project "The Wrath of the Cockatrice", I knew I would need an image to serve as the thumbnail for the first three chapters. Ultimately I settled on this-- the banner of the von Härtenfleisch clan, as described in the first chapter. The symbolism of having a cockatrice as a heraldic beast representing the family is fairly obvious here; Vasyliscă is descended from a long line of weredrakes, specifically of the basilisk variety, and the dark grey iron color of the shield (known in German heraldry as "eisen-farbe") is representative of their ability to turn others to stone.
