Id recommend not putting this as your profile pic. Apparently this rat is paralyzed, the blue die is to help stimulate neural repair. This is a very ery sad picture, not cute at all :<

it would have been sad, except the experiment actually worked and the rat became mobile again.. while animal experimentation is indeed a touchy subject, at least in this case the animals condition was only temporary

The rat did partially recover from the spinal injury it received (a weight was dropped on it), but that didn't matter much. It was then dissected. All just to test a blue food coloring derivative.

i hadnt heard about it being dissected, just that it had fully recovered... that's too bad

Please, I can understand where you're coming from with this photo... sadly this... reminds me a lot of what happens when my rats pass away... and it does hurt a lot... :(

I have been keeping rats now for 10 years, so I obviously understand the pain of loosing them. The irony of it is that people took this out of context. I havent actually said at any point in the description that it was supposed to be cute or 'awwww' material. Point of fact is, I was suffering from a great deal of depression when I uploaded it.

Unbeknown to me at the time, this image actually from an experiment that brought this rat back into life. It was paralysed, but the blue die you see in his paws was part of some greater experiment. It mobilised him again.

Therefore, this is why I keep the image. It does look sad, but actually, the outcome from this was extremely happy. I guess some hidden message to me? I was depressed, but I came out of it.

I currently have 4 rats at the moment. 8 months old now.
