Dude, we can't even get to low earth orbit without serious risks and ridiculous expense. And when we DO get something accomplished, all it takes is a little too much inertia to critically fluff things up.

A coworker had brought up the Moon Sniper to me at work this week. I must say that it has to be quite disheartening for the team to have put that entire operation together only for one small misstep to foil everything. Here's to giving the Moon Sniper (I agree, odd name that) a nudge!
The "Moon Sniper", eh. Well, the innocent explanation for that name is that it simply references the terms "moonshot/shoot for the moon" Japan does love borrowing English language words and phrases they deem cool-sounding.
Granted, I always found "moonshot" a somewhat strange word, an odd concept, in and of itself.

You most definitely have a point. So much technology has military connections, the internet for one started as a distributed network during the Cold War so that if one or several communications nodes were taken out in a nuclear strike messages could still be passed.
