Meet King Lilac, the first Monarch of the Bee Kingdom!
Lilac is a caring and just ruler, who does absolutely everything in his power to forward the cause of his people. Soft-spoken and charming, he is likely one of the least intimidating rulers you’ll encounter in the insect world. That isn’t to say he’s a pushover however. While diplomacy is his preferred way of resolving conflicts with the other nations, he wouldn’t hesitate to wield his power – military or political – to ensure he is taken seriously. Thankfully, it hasn’t come to that yet - the nations worldwide are far too focused on the issue of their upcoming coexistence with humanity to truly bicker amongst themselves.
And King Lilac is an active voice in that discussion, being one of the few leaders openly sympathetic to humanity and their plight. All because of a single human who had cared for him and his hive, prior to The Enlightening – an event that awoke insects to their sentience. The name and the lilac motif are actually an homage to that human, who is still a highly regarded person in the Bee Kingdom to this day. The little gold necklace hanging slightly off-center there is a treasured gift from that human – a deeply personal trinket that was given to Lilac as a show of appreciation and trust, one that Lilac wears with pride.
And while Lilac is well aware that his stance on humanity is somewhat unpopular, when time comes for insectkind to take their place in the world, the Bee Kingdom will welcome and care for any human who isn’t actively hostile to them.

So this year
Nesciens pulled a fast one on me again, and approached the same artist for yet another drawing of a character from our share AU. And by god is it a joy to see once more ;u;
Artwork by
m11ck once again by who did an incredible job brining King Lilac to life and being incredibly understanding throughout the designing process. So, again, if anthropomorphic insects are your jam, definitely give their gallery (and twitter) a look!

Nesciens is almost uniquely responsible for just how fuckin' sweet the bees (and, subsequently Lilac) are in this world. And my heart sings a little bit when people just genuinely like characters who are unapologetically nice ;w;
Thank you! A lot of this is
Nesciens's work. I can't believe how much sprouted from a single dumb joke about a yellowjacket wasp in a yellow jacket. This whole AU, the Bee Kingdom, Ant Oligarchy, Moth Republic... you name it... it all sprouted from there and just gained more and more detail as things went along.

Depends where on the timeline you're thinking - initially they're the size of normal bugs but following the mass Enlightening of insects all over the world then subsequent quick human takeover/pacification, bugs get grown to around human size (maybe a few feet or so taller) and humans get all reduced down to the former size of bugs/a bit smaller.
Spiders, yes! Extensively! One of the major things that have been conceived is a pretty major crime/mafia syndicate that operates in the area. Featuring an older spider gentleman by the name of Aratone who is slowly passing the business down to his son Augustus. I believe last we discussed them, they were in the process of entering an alliance with the Bee Kingdom.
Mantises not so much though, not yet. But there have been several of them, who were featured in various roles around the Ant Oligarchy.

The world and characters are from a huuuge, longstanding RP done by me and
JVector!
The TL;DR is: eccentric, reclusive scientist named Markus is working on a shrinking device but when testing it, it backfires as the failsafes (predictably) fail leaving him tiny and the resulting energy given off affects the entire turf of his house (and a few nearby houses) leaving all the insects now anthro-fied and fully sapient. From there Markus gets dragged into loads of different hijinks and adventures with the various bug species, all of which have their own society/ruling system, and all with... differing attitudes towards the giant roaming titans that are 'humans' and specifically the now tiny human that they once lived around who now walks among them.
This picture shows Lilac, the King and Ruler of the Bee Kingdom. Markus was (and still is!) incredibly fond of bees and before the shrinking incident would often leave sugar water out for them and would be very gentle with them. Subsequently the now sentient bees have come to revere the human and have been spending their time trying to search for him after his 'disappearance'. Obviously once Markus has been found by them, he's immediately taken to the Bee Kingdom and now finds himself surrounded by excited bees all wanting to see and touch the revered human itself...
There's an absurd amount of logs and writing me and JV have done in this AU, from the Ant Oligarchy, the Spider Mafia, the Dragonfly Chiefdom and the Moth Republic - probably not a high chance of any proper stories being published of them as the RPs are pretty rough/unpolished as they were never intended for outside viewing, but there are some more pictures from this world that will be put up at some point - and subsequently have descriptions written for them, so look forward to that ;D

Markus has been spending quite a lot of his time working with the insects to fix/adjust his shrinking device and upgrade it into a full on 'size changer' so it can make him big/human-sized again. This hasn't yet happened, hence the mentions of it being upcoming and something they're working on, but when it is finally complete the idea is that insects will quickly grow and 'anthro-ify' other insects worldwide to human-size while shrinking humanity down to insect-size. Obviously this will result in a lot of chaos and leave the now huge insects and now tiny humanity with a lot of aspects to come to terms with!
Insects shrink humanity down A: because humanity is overall pretty brutal to insect life and, from a bug's perspective, appear practically genocidal, B: because their limited research and insight into humans has shown them to be self-destructive and disastrous for the world (climate change and potential nuclear armageddon) so insects think it's about time they take over and 'fix' everything. When insects grow themselves and shrink all of humanity, they essentially take full control over everything, making it very hard for humans to even exist outside of their notice, let alone put together any scheme to reverse this... as you might imagine the insects keep any tech related to all of this very secure and it was only invented in part thanks to the help of Markus, who is very sympathetic towards insects and would never agree to work with any rebel humans wanting to undo all this... so basically humanity is firmly stuck to the underside of the new insect world order, both figuratively and literally.
And very possibly! I'll admit, the odds of an actual long story going into all of this is incredibly unlikely given just how much *there is* and how it's all in RP-logs format and would take a lot of effort to turn into actual proper story format... but it's very possible that little shorts/extended single scenes of big ol' insects around either mini Markus or subsections of a shrunken humanity could be put out in future. Or if someone comms the both of us for it - insects are (forgive the pun) the bee's knees after all.
