D&D has had a huge impact on my life. It's helped inform a lot of my sense of taste (and bardic style), it's part of what got me into reading Tolkien and writing poetry, and it's helped me make some amazing friends-including my very best friend. So while I detest both Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, and realize latter-years TSR wasn't the best company I feel the 50th anniversary of its first being published back in January (or February-it's difficult to pin down an exact date) merits an homage.
This poem is also dedicated to my good friend Jennell Jaquays who passed away not that long ago. The art used for this poem's thumbnail is by her. If you're a fan of D&D and/or of tabletop gaming in general this one's for you.

My eternal heart. It’s funny that I got into role playing games through single player rpgs like lone wolf and always wondered why there was no multiplayer things like it, always wondering what dnd actually was until the 2nd edition into the 3rd edition pop. Though always critical system wise and don’t play it often very much, I must give it respect for paving the road for everything from beautiful Traveller, WOD, Starwars d6, and the plethora of everything. I guess I do fall into the Anderson camp of camp, loved a lot of his modules from the old Temple of the Frog and city of the gods which when I ran it the first time ended the exact same way as that original party though as fugal and crew. I always wanted to learn more of what Andre Nortons play through was like. It too has given me fond memories and amazing friends.
I am sorry about your lose, she was an amazing artist. Loved her Traveller art and have been inspired by her Aoe art for decades.
Thank you for writing this and happy 50 year anniversary. A beautiful poem of something shared in our hearts.
.hugs.
