Greetings.
I have been away for some time due to getting a desktop. I have also been trying out my (other) hobbies such as games.
Please excuse my absence.
In the meantime, I have been working on Joseph Keahi some more. In feeling annoyed at the lack of overall cohesion (and boredom), I wanted to "move past" my lineart stage a bit and toddle around with some coloring. I feel like coloring is my (somewhat?) preferred step in art; lineart can feel like drudgery. Pros and cons, I guess, since my modern artstyle includes lineart whereas my old(er) artstyle was painterly (i.e. a sketch layer that I painted over versus a lineart layer that I keep). I wanted to go for a more clean, digital art look since my own critique of my art made me feel as if I was overly smudge-y or "hiding" my art with (very) excessive shadow.
...
...
That said, I decided to slap some color on Joseph to get an idea of how I wanted to approach it.
Good news! This experiment made me utilize a style feature that I wanted to do but never got around to it: lineart color! His hand is meant to be in flame, so I colored the lineart with a bright orange to give it a very cool hot-as-embers look, I think. :)
Also, I am really happy with the fire. I don't actually recall when I last drew a proper fire, so I am glad that I like this attempt. It was actually fun to use the Lasso tool and scribble on a fire shape to use. Made it wild and upkept like a (proper?) flame.
The line art is not finished. This is why his belt has no buckle and he is bootless. :|
Some notes:
-I am unsure of the color of his pants. They are supposed to be Navy blue. I cannot decide if I want to use this color or a dark gray/black.
-His firefighter logo is not included yet since it is going to have to be drawn.
-I spent a few attempts at his skin tone and hair color. While I am happier with the skin tone since I started, the hair might need more work. It kind of looks...ashy.
-Do you like his Arcanine markings? I do. I may have to make them a bit more "jagged" to give it more texture as a skin pattern.
-Oh. I forgot that he has hair in two places: his nose and his chest tuft.
