Aww, I see. Yeah, they say you shouldn't have a rat out while you are in a car, in case they wriggle into something and end up in the engine or something -_- But I bet it'd be such a comfort to have a ratty with you when you drive! I wish you were able to, I bet that would make you so happy, it would make me happy, anyway. :3

I think it probably has something to do with them being so good at adapting that they overrun places where people live and get into food supplies, etc. Since they can get in anywhere they're good at picking up other critters that carry disease. It's unfortunate because it has nothing to do with their personality, intelligence, etc.
Aw I hope Mochi gets better.
