Hey folks! Just seeing if I can upload this as I am thinking of changing how I do the comics exactly! There is still experimentation this is just a sample spliced from 2 of the recent comics
I will probably delete this later.
But I am thinking of having fewer uploads of slightly longer comics and shorter chapters! The reality of life for me right now is that I am losing time and, unless I am somehow able to make enough money doing comics to make it worth it (which I doubt) I will be needing to work with less free time thanks to working a full time job of some sort!
So I am trying to get ahead of that screaming train and adjust my workflow to try and think of a way of still getting decent amounts of story out. And this is just kinda a spliced example of that.
Instead of making say, 2 comics that range from 6-12 panels a week, just making one comic that is 12-20 panels a week, about 1 and a half of each of the current pages.
It would require me to change how the comics are paced a bit so things fit in properly but would allow me to maintain some of the pace that I find necessary for the comic while also crunching the workflow into overall fewer hours. It's a slight slowdown instead of cutting the pace in half.
that's all! May delete this later, just making sure FA can handle these

I was thinking about using postybirb!
Honestly above all I keep my upload rate as it is mostly to try and tell the story I want to tell in as quick a time as possible.
I have some 30 chapters in mind total for TLH and considering it’s taken me 3 years to do 6 chapters, 2 side stories, and what I currently got. It’s gonna be at least another 10 at my current pace
Assuming something doesnt happen to end the comic early and I stick with it for a decade. It’s less necessarily about audience retention ( even if I am scared about that) and more about just me wanting to tell a long story as quickly as I reasonably can without losing comic quality

Bit late seeing this, but if you get it going and are interested in reaching a few more people with your work, Long Hike looks good on Inkbunny, and it has PostyBirb support that many people use.
We have bulk ZIP upload options I could enable for you so you could upload earlier chapters into multi-file submissions all at once, or at least a lot at once, rather than one page at a time.

To be completely honest, While I use postybirb, I not sure of Inkbunny, but i've heard a loooota things about the site about things like cub and whatnot that make me a bit apprehensive about it.
awkward saying that to the lead admin of the site but it would be a lie to say otherwise
Though then again I also post on e621 so... I dunno, how is that whole thing on the site? Are those rumors true or whats goin on with respect to that sorta content?

No, that's totally fair! As you can read on WikiFur, we basically decided to ban humans in sexual situations* rather than underage characters in sexual situations, on the grounds that a) it resolves the legal concern (as only humans and [in the UK] neko-style characters are classified as people), b) it lets us host furry content that isn't served by other sites, and c) we require members to be 18+ anyway (unlike, say, FA).
About 9-10% of work on Inkbunny is tagged with 'cub' (which could be any underage character, but which we'd usually require on preadolescents, including General-rated work - for example this page would be required to have that tag or a scaly equivalent; I guess 'kids' works). I think this is about the same proportion as was on FA before it was banned due to payment provider issues. However, it is popular - like the Pokemon and Digimon characters banned recently - since it's one of the few places it's allowed.
Since we knew some people don't want to see certain topics ('cub' isn't even top of the list in that respect), we had keyword-based blocking from launch, require that work be keyworded appropriately and have a suggestion feature that can be used by others in case the poster forgets something. That way, everyone can live in harmony - or at least closer to it.
As for 'whatnot' - during lockdown we saw a rise in people joining the site who seemed more interested in trading Signal or Wickr links, advertising as 'MAP's etc. We put a foot down on that because it wasn't related to the purpose as I understood it when I took over Inkbunny, which is to be a furry art and story community with freedom of expression as a top priority.
Actually living up to that ideal can be tricky, and it sometimes surprises people who think IB is all about what they like and then get annoyed when we keep something they don't like on the same grounds (the most recent example being AI, which we decided to regulate to discourage abuse rather than ban entirely). But I think it's important and that's why I run it along with WikiFur and Flayrah, which have essentially the same philosophy.
(* Originally humans were banned entirely; we decided to relax that so that clean and/or primarily furry works such as yours would still be viable on the platform. People can still link to such work elsewhere and post previews that don't show infringing content.)

That is a lot of stuff tagged cub, 10% of everything? I don't think I can morally keep myself ok with that, granted the sites I post on aren't exactly free of that either, though I don't think Inkbunny at this moment is for me.
And the AI too.
But I get it so dw, you do your site as you want to and how you think it should be ran. Don't let me bark at you how you do the site seeing as, inarguably you are frankly deeply more qualified to run sites and probably have more experience in compromises and whatnots, but I probably won't be hoppin on unless that stuff were to change. No problems with you (you're chill) but I don't think I got it in me to be on a site like that.
I do appreciate the foot coming down on the MAPS and the efforts for free speech, but overall I can't look around that 10% number. Freedom of expression is also cool, though I do have my own line in the sand there. And I appreciate the preference to less pornographic content! I think FA could do with that. But I still can't get past those numbers.
But I'll at least keep an eye open on the site, I'll owe you that to see if things shift or whatnot or somenot
Best of wishes regardless

That's OK! I just saw the comment about using PostyBirb and thought I'd ask, since you're one of the very short list of artists that I actually still visit FA to read the work of nowadays, and I know not everyone will make that trek. 😼
Like I said, we use the keyword as a neutral descriptor, not a kink - if it has an obviously underage animal on the page, it has 'cub' - like the first third of The Lion King, or pretty much anything with characters from half the cartoons out there. The distinction is made in the rating - keyword blocks can be set to trigger on 'x' + Mature Nudity or Adult Sex/Strong Violence, for example, while allowing 'x' + General and Mature [Mild] Violence.
But a fair proportion is Adult; and just as that's why some visit or post there, it's a reason many don't, so I'm not surprised. It's always been kind of a double-edged sword: I've seen sites that were technically better than here (at least back in the day) that petered out, because they never gave anyone a good enough reason to be there - other than that they were pissed with FA - being smaller but otherwise much the same in terms of rules and content.
Anyway, don't let me distract you from what is hopefully soon a good or at least productive weekend! 😸

Yeah for me its more the reality understanding this comic will never be a living, and trying to reconcile a loss of time (doing a job) and trying to juggle the comic here. It's not ideal as frankly what I have now is ideal
But I don't see any way out of having to do life and so the comic will have to adapt as my hours disappear further and further! Not the first time it's happened anywho. Will be painful slowing an already long story (some 30 chapters total) down even more than it is now but it is what it is

Sense you seem to have doubled the lengh of the comic, really, it comes to 6 of one, half dozen of the other, so eather way works, just go with what your comfortable with. Yah with the longer comic, you get more of the story at a go, but, the rate is still the same. Probably will make it easyer for some to follow with the longer, it gives more chance to give detail instead of having to wait tell the next comic.
