"Dude" is a famous word for addressing one's male peers, originating from California, or at least popularized there.
It has strong connotations of the surfer and stoner culture of the Western U.S.
The term was very widely used in the 80s-90s US media, but has now become worn out.
You can still occasionally see someone who is overtly macho being referred to as a "dudebro" on the Internet nowadays.

Thanks for the detailed explanation about "dude", I had no idea! Our "mano", the translation of choice, is alive and well! It is a highly derived version of irmão ("brother"), and very characteristic of São Paulo, they even added the weird accent we have.

(Aaaaand actually the best Brazilian accent is from Minas Gerais. It is not a question of numbers, but melody! Last time I visited there, I struggled to talk, because their accent sounds so much better and I was ashamed to open my mouth xP)
