A former Police Detective, Ralph left the force due to multiple reasons. He now works as a Private Investigator at his own self-owned business. He's happy for the change of pace as it gives him more freedom to focus on individual cases as well as the caretaking of his adopted niece, Alyssa.
Upon purchasing his new home and office at honestly a steal, (People thought it was haunted.) Ralph discovers an old dusty bureau left behind by the previous tenants. Turns out it was left because its immovable for some reason. While dusting the bureau, a roach scurries across the top. Startled, Ralph scoops up the bug in a mug, and escorts it outside to be free.
Turns out the roach isn't a roach, and instead transforms into Soot, the soot fairy.
Soot deems Ralph worthy of protective the bureau, as well as its magical contents and other magical creatures and prompts him to sign a magical contract, turning Ralph into a magical boy, and protector of peace, people, and magical creatures.
With his new found bureau full of magical tools and trinkets, as well as a Magic-fying glass wand from Soot, Ralph begins his new occupation as a Magical Private Investigator. Solving odd cases, and helping both people and magical creatures alike, all the while trying to keep his new magical secrets from his adopted daughter, Alyssa.
