D&D 3.5 - Dragonborn are the elite followers hand-picked by the dragon god Bahamut to help fight the evil spawn of Tiamat. They aren't allowed to indulge in any way, since it detracts from their purpose. To become one, you must first be devoted enough to be chosen, then perform a ritual and be reborn. They are holy warriors of the Platinum Dragon God, and will never falter from the path of righteousness.

Exactly. It just takes a lot of the character right out of them. I mean, it was a big thing to be Dragonborn in 3.5. It's one thing to change the system for a new edition (which I didn't particularly care for), but to retcon a race as specific as the Dragonborn just because being able to play as dragon-people might spark up interest in the game again -.-?
The next thing you know, Kobolds will be living in trees, Drow will be sunbathing, and Pelor will be a lich.

It took a lot of explaining, and some incredibly harsh restrictions on how to play my alignment. I did make the mistake of summoning skeletons to save some fellow Pelorites from a burning church...and then got chased out of town when the guards arrived and saw me controlling skeletons that were carrying children.
He was so misunderstood.

Yeah, it's sad really. I've been 3.5 for a while now and I have some friends that started playing 4.0 as their first shot at D&D, so I decided to check it out. It's not just the Dragonborn that have been effectively neutered... the entire edition's become like what WoW has become over the years, accessible at the cost of lore and creativity. I just don't see how it's fun compared to 3.5
well, in classic AD&D not all undead wanted to be that way... most likely they were forced to be that way by a necromancer, or couldn't move on because of a traumatic life/death; so a philosophy of "destroy all undead and send them to hell" is unjust...
There really needs to be a god that follows a philosophy of "releasing the souls to their proper end"

I always thought it was kind of a contradiction for the gods of Death to be okay with the undead. Think about it for a second. Skeletons and such are treated as mindless, yes, but what about intelligent undead? Isn't that technically bypassing death? A god of Death should dislike undeath with the same severity as Pelor.
But really, the state of undeath in D&D is up to the DM. It's the DM's world, and it can be whatever they want it to be. In my friend's game, Undead are a standard race. In my games, casting even one True Resurrection could be enough to get a confrontation from a Marut Inevitable.

it's because most illustrators showed lame kobolds. the same way Tolkien never told about female dwarves, and later only hinted at them being the absolute queens in their own homes... which might explain why male dwarves are so thirsty for action. XD
most monsters were never shown in both genders. like Gnolls, lizard people, cat people, and so on. female wemics were seen in the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, though.

hehe, I know them. :)
female kobolds... I'm not sure off the top of my head, but either Reaper miniatures or Ironwind Metals might have some. browsing the catalogue of a large dealer might help. you'll never know what someone comes up with. :)
Ral Partha had a series of 8 different cat taurs males and females, which were probably meant for a miniature board game named "Bushido". they were called "Daeshiru" skirmishers, archers, and such. just in case you know a place where to get mid-90's miniatures. :)
oh, and they had some K'zinti on tap, modelled after Larry Elmore's paintings. for whatever reason they were never part of the official catalogue.

Neverwinter Nights had female Lizard Folk. I found a thread about modding the game so you could play as one, and that convinced me to buy the game, and thus I played as a female Lizard Folk for pretty much the entire series. Mods also included decent female Gnolls as well. I loved the original Neverwinter Games.
interesting! I was never really deep into computer games when we still had our C-64, and never came around the Neverwinter Nights games. ^^
there is that series of books called "Hunter's Guide to..." featuring gnolls. but the book is awfully slim, so I never dished out the money for it. the Eberron camapign setting might have more on them, since many intelligent monster races are available for player characters there.

I'll have to search for those Minis. I remember Bushido. Finding a Kzinti would be especially awesome. :)
I have the Hunters Guide to Gnolls. It wasn't too bad. Mostly background information into building a gnoll lair and gnoll psychology and pack structure. Illustrations were so so.

This is one of the better dragonborn pieces I've seen. The best part is how humble you made her look. She doesn't look absurdly muscular or huge like a lot of art I've seen of them. (Well, the boobs are still huge, but compared other arts of them, those are tiny ). What sells it is the face, that silly expression adds a humorous personality on top of the (very) sexy figure. Seeing this makes me want to know more about her, not to mention see more of her :) .
