Rarely is life a straight and level path. Each step taken, each decision made, every second-guess or change of course or halted train of thought carving a path through hereto uncharted territory. Perhaps another has made the same decision, but it is never the exact same decision. Two people may take the same turning at a crossroads, and yet within a mile be as distant as the Moon and Sun. Yet for one’s natural fear of the unknown, a caution on the absence of information forged through millennia of misjudgements, like pawns upon a chessboard, the only way to go is forward.
I dunno: I thought it was a pretty picture, and I needed a description. For all I know someone could have made a spiel like that once in the thousands of years this path has likely been used. ;-p

I'm sure that many thoughts have been thought by the generations of people who have walked this path.
Many imagined things and thought: "why not?"
Others saw things as they are and thought: "why?"
Many surely looked ahead and wondered: "what next?"
Most of them probably just wanted to get to work and weren't thinking such grand thoughts. ;)
It's certainly a pretty picture, and it even inspired a bit of whimsey on my part. Imagine that!
