There are two ways to kill a monster. The first is through careful tracking and astute observation to identify a weak point which can be exploited for an effective and (relatively) safe execution. The other is through brute force; relentlessly hacking away at a monster until its body gives out. Most hunters sensibly go with the first option, but Ezekiel preferred the latter. He was brazen and brash, but he was no fool. He knew his method of fighting risky, but that's precisely why he chose it. It was exhilarating! The rush of adrenaline as he landed strikes with his broadsword, evading the frantic attacks of the monster he was duelling. All the blood shed from both parties. It was a brutal dance to the death, and Ezekiel craved it.
He was a handsome fellow, who liked to dress sharp and look good. But with his fighting style, it's no surprise his looks didn't last. One bout left his face gravely disfigured, and feeling quite bitter about his damaged visage, he crafted a mask to hide it. His mother (Renata) always told him he fought rabidly like a monster, so he took inspiration from that and made his mask in the image of one.
He learned to hunt from his mother. Hunts with her were strict, and while Ezekiel learned a lot, he didn’t find them very enjoyable. It was her way or… well, her way. She was not the kind of woman you would ever dare disobey. When it came time to train his great-nephew Eli, he took a more open approach. He wanted Eli to find a way of hunting that worked for himself. So he taught all that he knew about monsters without the overbearing command that he was taught with. Or at least, he would have… The two didn’t get many hunts together. One night Ezekiel went missing, and Eli went out searching for him. Admittedly, he had already accepted what had happened before he set out, but still, seeing his body was disheartening. He not only lost a friend that day, but his mentor too. Eli would have to learn to hunt, alone.
