All the plantains I have ever seen are FAR BIGGER than bananas.

That's wrong too. Plantains are naturally very starchy, and pretty bland eaten raw, though they tend to be sweeter when cooked up.

According to what I read, if you eat them when their peel turns brown/black then they're sweeter and more appetizing raw. With the green peel, not so much.
