First real fursuit design plans: Advice and tips appriciated
see my latest journal on this one C:
I'm planning on making my very first fursuit in the summer and these are the plans. based on my fursona Ichi's original design where she has more of a sheepish look and less anime-ish.
anyone out there with any real experience on making fursuits or any of the ingredients (handpaws/hoofboots/padding, etc.), any advice or links to tutorials would be MUCH appreciated!
I know what you're thinking 'why is this furry noob taking such a big step and doing this with no experience?' weeeeeell I've discovered I tend to be a natural at everything. .n. not trying to brag but my hands are magical. soooo, I'm taking the chance, but don't expect this lamb to come up with a shitty costume. I'm a perfectionist <3
so yeah, any advice or tutorials or self experience will be nice! doesn't matter if it's good or bad experiences in he building process, any and all words are taken to heart.
thanks guys! <3
EDIT: I've found a KICK ASS tutorial on digigrade legs WITHOUT having to use heels, so I will be making the legs as such. for those interested, here is the tutorial! it already comes as hooves! http://www.komickrazi.com/costumes/tut3.html

sheepy sheep! if you have any construction questions lemme know, i love helping :3
(also i personally prefer the two fingered hoof glove design)
best experience i can give is that the fur(or other material) will shape to how its sewn
i wanted to cut and carve wood down to use as hoofs for my first hoof feet but ended up nt haveing the space for it...i should try at that again now that i have access to a workshop...

I'm going with the two fingered design too. I was just thinking about being able to hold things better. perhaps you know of a way to make firm but nimble hoofy like fingers? kinda like how some people make fabric dog noses. .3. I'd like to be able to properly hold things...
but then again having clumsy hooves will add to the cute, and the character Ichi is supposed to be stupidly huggable |D

i vote for clumbsy hooves <3 but being able to hold and manipulate things is one part in the building of it and a HUGE part in wearing the gloves and getting used to them, kinda like how i can walk in my cow fursuits giant hoofs (even jog along at a brisk pace)
when you make a part of the costume you should spend some time useing the gloves, picking things up, useing objects, opening doors, like anything the more you do it the better you will get
same goes for walking in those hoofs!

OKAY! but questiooon. D: based on the tutorial link I posted in the description now, how can I make those hooves clip-clop? that was the whole reason I wanted to use wood shoes as the base, cuz I want my hooves to clippy clop as I walk <3 but the new leg design I plan on using, the hooves don't have that ability cuz it's just a circular plastic jar piece. any ideas on how to modify that to make it clippity-cloppy? o3o
eeee!!! i wana make clippycloppyhoofs so bad you probebly have the same idea ;-;
anyways! the only way to make your hoofs clipclop if you do that would be to glue (and nail if your feeling gutsy) a lacquered board of cut pine to the underside of the shoe, since the clipclop noise comes from the material hitting the floor, you just have to make sure that the wooden parts are what are cloping against the floor.
lso i read up on that tutorial lots for the digigrade padding, and the shortness of the hoof illusion is made by all that padding on the top of the foot, so you dont nessacarily HAVE to make it with the folded plastic sheet over a pair of shoes, but as long as the actual padding on the ankle poofs out to either the middle of your foot, that way you can make the actual hoofs with enough of an angle to cover the toes comfortably
i have been thinking lots about either getting a pair of high heels on the cheep and carveing them into clopy wooden hoofsies, or carveing the whole insides out of wood and leather
but whatever material you use dont forget to clearcoat it for durability! (lacquer for wood and ...i dunno stuff for the clay, my school had a pretty sweet woodshop and then i worked at a hardware store for a couple years so i myself will prolly carve my hoofies out of wood, but again thats just meeee)

according to the tutorial page, the maker used a combo of latex and paint to cover the clay. I have a guy next store to me who has a n in-garage woodshop, but I don't know if he'd help much. he's really friendly but I barely know him :'D I can always try carving a woos hoof myself as well an nailing that directly to the shoe instead of the plastic.
well, worse comes to worse, I make the shoe itself removable with sturdy velcro and I update the hooves later when I learn more! XD but if I manage to make my first pair clippy-clop, I'll let you know how!

or maybe have a few velcro straps to hold the shoe in place, so you dont have to get a new junky pair of sneaks and just use whatever you have already broken in
as long as the velcro doesnt get too much all over the fur.
aaah i still need to finesh my Crux suit before makeing any hoof related plans.
but now im really curious to see how your first suit comes out! (watches)

XD well, unfortunately I won't be able to start till I get another job or two, and even then can't start till late next month. it'll be my birthday then and all I'm asking for are craft store gift cards to go towards my fursuit! 8'D I'll certainly keep you posted though! I might do some projects on livestream if I feel up to it. I know
aressa will be teaching me certain things on private webcam. watch her too! she does some fursuits already!
