This picture was initially intended to have a background, but I drew the characters in first and then realized it was really hard to make a fitting background to frame them, so I decided to go ahead and do something with the lines I had. Next time, I will try drawing the background first with composition in mind, and then make the characters tailored to the background. But, in any event, my goal is to become proficient at background art as well as portraiture.
