Apparatuses of state power of the People's Democratic Unitary Republic of Visonia, 1988.
The People's Democratic Unitary Republic of Visonia was a one-party totalitarian state located in Southeastern Levropia. It was notorious for its extraordinarily radical ideology, Tanroduna, that revolved around extreme xenophobia, ethnic nationalism, and military-first policy, a belief conceived by the founder and the longest-serving head of the regime, Generalissimo Andras Siuro, in 1964. He also founded the Tanrodunist SZS-RKV party (Centre of National Syndicalists and the Functionalists' Section of Visonia), commonly referred to as the "Section", which acted as the sole legal party in the country.
Visonia's ideological radicalism led to the aggressive expulsion of all ethnic and religious minorities in the country. Out of all minority groups in Visonia, they put a special hatred against ethnic Samgurtians. Aside from that, the regime also terrorized their fellow Visonians as a measure to enforce subjugation over the populace. Utilizing the military and especially the zealous members of the Free National Youth (FNY), they were not shy to employ unbridled violence towards their fellow countrymen. These attacks were often baseless and stemmed out of pure suspicion, but sometimes such attacks came from personal rather than ideological matters. The violence reached its peak on the late 1960s as the country was losing a war against its northern neighbor, Samgurtia.
One interesting behavior of the regime is that they had a special hatred against educated people and advanced education in general. Upper echelons of the regime perceived intellectuals as a threat to their rule. The Party framed places of higher education, chiefly universities, as "communist breeding ground". Subjects of arts and humanities are the first one to be denounced, followed by social sciences in general, calling them "useless communist ramblings". It didn't take long until STEM were demonized as well, with the Party calling STEM subjects, especially regarding biology, as "communist pseudoscience". In 1966, the Party mobilized FNY members across the country to ransack universities near their base. They burnt hundreds of thousands of books, set up buildings in fires, and plenty of professors and lecturers were mercilessly beaten to death, if not marched across the city in a walk of shame. On the winter of the same year, it is decided that universities were banned and any existing ones were to be transformed into a highly politicized form of vocational schools that only teach students bare technical skills. The Ministry of Education was later dismantled in 1967 and had its affairs regarding art, culture, language, historiology, and public education in general transferred to the Enlightening Department of the Party. In the years to come, Visonia experienced the worst case of brain drain in the recent Levropian history.
The nation's eccentric and violent ideology made themselves to be shunned by the international community. Instead of using it as a reflection, they doubled down and cut all relations with other countries, even going as far as destroying all embassies and consulates in the country. Those actions left themselves to be the most isolated country of the modern times. As imports plummeted and exports crashing down due to embargoes and Visonia's own refusal to trade with other countries, the Visonian economy imploded. Industries across the country experienced crisis as fuels became extremely scarce and they had difficulties on finding new spare parts to maintain their machineries, as most of them were imports. Visonia in the late 1960s to the mid 1970s were characterized with sporadic famines the imports of food products virtually evaporated and harvests were constantly failing as there were no fertilizers nor pesticides. The fishing industry, which had been feeding the citizens of the major coastal cities of the south, even collapsed as the fishermen had no fuel to start their trawlers. Their hostile approach towards the educated people didn't help either, as those with much-needed advanced technical education had already fled or been killed.
Visonia turned into a backwater country as a result of the ruling class' paranoia. Currently, it is the poorest country in Levropia, with the GDP per capita only reaching $500 in 1990. However, the country has the highest rate of active military personnel per capita in the world. The Visonian military, despite its numbers, still used outdated technology of the early 20th century due to their isolation.

Ah yes, nothing like unhinged ethnonationalism with a bit of North Korean isolationism, a tinge of Khmer Rouge rabid anti-intellectualism and a small touch of ethnic cleansing. Clearly a recipe for success!
Would be fascinating to see what Visonia looked like one hundred years before, and how this regime came to be.
