One day when no one was in the church, the Ters 1 3/5’ rank decided to check its pipes to hear how they sounded. Upon descending the register, it realized how similar its lowest notes sounded to the octava or principal stops. Playing around, it found that it wasn’t just a rarely used accessory, but in fact had a voice of its own, worthy of taking the lead for some pieces… if it could just descend a bit lower… maybe the highest notes could complement it? Hmm. It wasn’t used to playing much like this, but this hymn.. this hymn it had in its mind for a while! It sounds beautiful…
Wondering what all the noise was, the Principal 8’ investigated to find the Ters messing around with the low keys of the manual. The Ters stiffly moved back up, but couldn’t just go without giving a proper cadence and goodbye to its lowest keys.
The Principal gathered the Octaves and Subbass, and decided to give a round to the verse the Ters composed. It sounded louder, and beautiful in a different way.
The Principal still remembered the curiosity with which the Ters played around, and decided to ask, ‘Play for us again sometime… I know you were designed for the upper range, but you do have a soft and beautiful voice for leading.’
