A very old SWAT Kats OC I drew well over a decade ago and who I said I would draw a new Bio pic for 4 years ago when I posted the old bio to the Scraps section ( https://www.furaffinity.net/view/34121538/ ) and it really does highlight how far I have come on my art journey ^^
BIO
Character Name: Amos Redgrave
Alias: Patchwork
Alliance: Good
Age: 439 (2nd February)
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Height: 6'2"
Build: Athletic / slim
Eye Color: Green
Fur Color: Red with Tan muzzle, neck and front.
Hair Color: Black Spiked
Distinguishing Marks: Body littered with stitching. P brand on his right arm. Tattooed lines on his cheeks and a big back tattoo. Hook at the end of his tail.
Clothing: Long sleeved shirts, Long coat, pants tucked into his boots or as he has attempts to modernize himself, skull shirts (when he wears shirts), jeans, boots and a black and red leather steampunk coat.
Occupation: Former Pirate - Current Layabout
Powers/special abilities:
It Will Take More Than Death To Kill Me - Amos is immortal. Plain and simple.
A Stitch In Time - Merely sewing back on any stray part of Amos body will cause them to function properly. Of course there are times where Amos will need assistants in doing so since it's hard to sew your arms back on when you have no arms.
Amos-tos - While his flesh can be cut and pierced and his bones can break, Amos can not burn. That covers fire burns, chemical burns, electrical burns, the whole deal.
Swash Your Buckles - As one would expect with him being a pirate, Amos is very well versed in sword fighting. While not as pretty as some you might expect to see in movies, he knows enough to make him a threat even without the fact he can take blows other kats can't.
Ahoy! - When needing to travel the Ninth Sea (The Lost Sea), Amos can summon unto him his ghostly crew and his ship The Midsummer Rose to any body of water by just dipping his tail into the water and whistling. (Warning: Do not use this power in a bath tub!)
Flaws/weaknesses:
Argh Me Body - Immortality and invulnerability are two different things. Amos feels every ounce of pain delivered to him and suffers the effects of every injury. He can be behead and his body will drop like a rock, while his body yells swear words out loud as it bounces down the way. It is in no way the perfect power it might first appear to be. This extends to his inablility to burn as he will feel the heat and the pain with it, additionally while he is fire proof, his stitches are not.
Fish Out of Water - Being from a time of pirates, there are many things about the modern day that Amos is completely out of touch with. Technology is pretty much magic to him, social norms have changed and so much of what he knows has died out. This not only isolates him for others but can lead to him making mistakes or even being tricked outright.
Conduct Unbecoming - His past life and current situation does present a unique issue with Amos that he needs SWAT's help to keep in check. Due to living through things that would kill others and living with the pain of all his injuries and traumas, Amos' suffering has him rely on drink to numb the pain. And when he is having one of his better days, he sometimes finds the urge to slip back into his pirating ways which would not be helpful to the SWAT Kats' image.
Reckless - A product of a time where life was cheap, mixed in with his power to always get back up again, Amos will be heedless of danger or the consequences of his actions. Where others will hang back and try to assess a situation, Amos will often charge on in without even thinking.
All The Squiggles - Amos can't read. It is something in his time that wouldn't really have been too bad since the only kats who could read were the ones writing the books. He can read a map better than most but actual words and stuff just confuse him.
Personality:
The best way Amos would describe himself is as a free kat, someone who is not bound by the conventions that others live their lives by, Amos will say and do whatever it is Amos wants to do. A lesser way of describing Amos is as an amoral scoundral who's pirate ways are a constant headache for those around him. Both are true but that is the surface level of a tom who despite the pain of his body, of losing all her loved and being seen as a joke to some, is a very kind and heartfelt guy, who doesn't judge anyone for who or what they are (a rarity now a days so centuries ago should have been unheard of). Loyal to a fault and always trying to make up for his life where he did things he wouldn't wish to do just to survive. If you get past the bluster and the bravdo, move aside fantastical stories he tells and the smell of booze on him befitting a kat from a time where water could kill you, you will also see a sad and lonely kat who just longs to be loved and to be happy.
History:
Well if we were to cover Amos' full history, we would have a book series of high-seas adventures, seduction of queens, princesses, priestesses and wenches and more monsters and mythical beings you could ever want. So let us just cover the basics.
Born in whatever the Kat version of Ireland is called (Probably Ireland X3) over 400 years ago, Amos Redgrave was the only son of Finola Redgrave a local tavern worker and an unknown sailor from a far off land who made Finola many a promise that he was a prince of said far off land before leaving and never returning. Amos lived with his mother in the tavern until her death when he was then pretty much sold to be a cabin-kitt at the age of 9 by the tavern owner. It was a hard life for a little kitt but what more was there for him so Amos threw himself into being the best darn cabin-kitt he could be... For all of two trips before the rest of the crew mutinied against a cruel captain and suddenly he was pirate too.
He rose through the ranks of his crew till he became captain, a famous and infamous pirate rogue and betrothed to the head of Port MastKat's Seamstresses' (hem, hem) Guild, Catie Briggs. He even found a genie's lamp and used the first two wishes to "cannay burn" and "to nay die" over his tours but kept the third wish to hopefully free the genie after his last voyage. Amassing vast amounts of gold and mystic relics, Amos' tale was nearing it's end, a retirement inland with his beloved Catie running an honest tavern was calling to him... He never returned home.
Set upon by another pirate crew he'd cheated, his own crew were slaughter and on finding they couldn't kill him, the other pirate crew cut him to bits fully intending on leaving him there. His head found it's way to the lamp and with a heavy heart, he used his last wish not to free the genie but to be put back together. The genie knew he had meant to keep the promise but fate had changed the plan so she granted it by sewing him back together with thread made of his own sails. Weakened, Amos fell into the old family heirloom that Catie had given him, a time chest, made to be so tight even time itself couldn't seep though (they were using it to keep food from going bad) and that was where his legend ended.
Until centuries later, the PastMaster revived him to aid the troll in another attempt to take Callista's descendant for himself but in turning against the mage, he found a new path. Using his immortality (though not invulnerability) he tries to make up for his past deeds as a hero, as Patchwork!
Motivation:
Attonement. Amos knows he will never die and face his judgement but that means the world he is in today is his Hell, his punishment. So by being the hero he always wanted to see himself being, maybe he can make things better and maybe, just maybe create a patch of Heaven for himself somewhere down the road.
