A fun story FtD but I have to admit I'm not entirely certain what happened? Was the lion daydreaming or something else?

Lions might be kings of the jungle but this one could not match the cunning of a fox. Also, yes, the lion was just getting REALLY into character during their match.

A good capture of war chess and an old tradition on top of what every old hammer trickles with.

Well, the whole notion is goofey, stepping back from it. That transition is what makes it powerful. That's the truth of reality there and why you did a good job.

This story was wonderful! I'm glad I didn't read the comments before reading the story, I love the surprise of what's happening. As someone with a very over active imagination I could absolutely see myself imaging a game in this same manner.

I very much appreciate you saying you thought this one went well. I was a bit worried that the lion's view of the situation might have been a bit too goofy, but I am glad to hear I am not the only one who gets so wholly invested in things as simple as a board game.

Quite clever. The ending gave me a good chuckle. Good job sprinkling little hints in up to that point that it was not a real battle as a lot of it didn't actually make much sense if it was, but perfectly made sense in that it is a representation of a chess game.

Well with an imagination as intense as the lion's I'm sure he had fun even in defeat.

"A crash behind him, the lion turned to see the doors to to his council room thrown from their hinges and strew across the ground in shattered pieces. Falling to his knees, the once proud and mighty feline merely gawked in sheer stunned shock as the artic fox, joined by his subjects, entered the scene. Having acquired all of the lion's remaining forces, the vulpine lowered himself into the great throne with a smirk upon his face." (Even losing can be fun.)
