Older pic. Full-screeeeeeeeeen.
Momoiro Rosado* the Chilean Flamingo, better known to her friends and fans simply as "Moe". She may be the only permanent female member of Crush On Phoenix (not counting dancers and backup voices and whatnot), but she's arguably the band's most crucial element. Aside from working the keyboards on stage, she's the one in charge of editing and mixing recordings. Her specialty, however, would be working the lighting department; before she joined the band, she was originally hired by Houyoku to be a lighting consultant after having seen what an excellent job she and her family did of setting up some surprise 'afternoon fireworks show' during last year's spring festival (she hasn't the heart to point out that they weren't supposed to go off so early, especially since she's still embarrassed about that little incident that ended up wasting all the recently-bought gunpowder in a matter of minutes!). Moe eventually mentions she practiced the piano when she was younger as the topic of the band's future is brought up, which in turn makes Hou insist she try out working a keyboard and become a member of his band, and has been there ever since.
Crush on Phoenix, by the way, is supposed to be a sort of J-Rock band (the equivalent, anyway), hence the overly pretty designs for all of the band members (Moe, for being the only one who I used actual visual kei images for costume reference, is arguably the most 'normal' looking of the bunch). The non-permanent costume she has on is new, though the goggles have been part of her design since day one.
*By all technicalities she's only half-Japanese, hence the last name being true to her South American roots. The thing that bugs me, though, is that, technically? There's no such thing as Japan or Chile in their world (not the ones we're familiar with, anyway). I'll give the geographical details some more thought after I get some sleep. What was I thinking doing two pic projects in a row...?

HA! Amusingly, I don't think I've heard of flamingoes being seen as phoenix representatives -- usually it's cocks or pheasants and Ibis birds and the like (which is pretty much one of the reasons those species were selected for this band). Good to see Moe fits the mold even better than I thought!
There was a Nature speical a few years back featuring flamingos especially as 'firebirds' ...
Seeing as they nest in some of the most caustic, hostile soda lakes in the great rift of Africa, and lay their eggs on nests in these eerie steaming desolate locales. Few predators will attempt to raid the nests as they get their legs all burned - the stuff clings to their fur, and any little nick or scratch is magnified several times painwise with exposure to the stuff.
The whole being reborn from a nest of fire seems related to the soda lake rookeries they return to every year.
There was an incredible sequence of a hyena, musta been -very- hungry, trying to rob nests from the shores with only marginal success.

Oh, *wow*, that is insanely awesome! I almost regret not having known about this sooner! (this would at least give some validity as to why Moe here is a bit of a pyromaniac - she loooves making things burn and/or go boom, a love she owes her family for :D)
Thanks very much for sharing this! I try my best to collect as much info on birds (whether they be facts or myths) for this project and every little bit helps!
