The simple fact that this is Mickey makes this LESS weird than the original.
Fun fact: even though he doesn't wear gloves in the cartoon, he does wear them on the title card, and on a couple of posters from that same year. (This same loophole can also be used to give Mickey red pants and, thanks to a minor detail on the Gallopin' Gaucho poster, yellow shoes.)
