This time I was too busy in December to finish this in time so I worked it out and upload it now :3
It is, yet again, time to look at this year's harvest; counting numbers and compare them with the year before...
It has, by no means, been as experimental and flourishing in style as 2022 has been. Sadly in one aspect but I notice how it let me really develop in one direction and focus on the fundamentals. I think also having an increase in commissions and general lack of time could have been why I shied from daring something more experimental. There are still some noticeable echoes of it in the early months.
Back to back, the last two years are very well composed, I am happy of most results, proud of nearly half of them. It is a slow development but overall, I believe it is going in a good direction.
Figure drawings are still my main focus though I have been more frequently using backdrops and landscapes to highlight the figures - something I have been striving to accomplish for a good couple years now and I'd like to have more of it in the future (but more of my resolutions in my annual reflection).
I am especially happy with my outcome in this year's Art Fight. Last year felt like I was forcing myself too much and value quantity over quality. This year, not only did I manage to make half of my submissions animations, the rest are also of high quality and feature generally more characters and more complex scenery. Gotta give myself a pat on the back for that ^v^ I assume the stars aligned just right and I have found motivation and time to make both things count.
I also want to address the many unpublished work I have put in this year. I have been heavily invested in figuring out scripts and designs for animation content. A short film which is in the draft stage but has been worked on under a strict structure and much passion for the cause... sadly is on hiatus until I have found the right voice actress for the project.
Another one started at the end of October, less ambitious but still reliant on voice talents to accompany with the animation. An animatic is currently under production and has to get through the sound stage before presentation in the following weeks.
More and more ideas...
And not to forget my website, which I had developed for a school course in less than two weeks entirely.
Then came my internship and the accompanied many travelling hours that I sometimes could spend with drawing or reading.
I got myself a tablet for school and flexible work and - while I originally wanted to finish whole projects with it - it has been mainly used for sketching, boosting my overall sketch count. Only last month did I try it out for animation as well, which hopefully will bear some fruit in the following months.
Quite a lot has happened in the last quarter of the year, but mainly that I started designing products to sell at a convention. Many, many more things had to be done, the refurbishing and printing process of my selected illustrations (of which approx 45% from 22; 35% from 23 and 20% 21 or older), cmyk and format conversion took much longer than expected and I have since learned to naturally lay out of works in a DIN friendly format, maybe even with CMYK colours in mind.
A highlight for me is definitely to have my art featured in two con books this year (they are the June and October piece featured here). I don't know if I can keep it up again this year but it would be a fun challenge!
Finished Projects:
-> Figure Drawings: 28
-> Sketch-pages: 31 (+ about 13 traditional pages)
-> Product Designs: 20
-> Animations: 4
-> Sketches: 4
-> Speedpaintings: 4
-> Misc: power point designs, website, banners, game clip art
Abandoned Projects: 4 (failed postcard designs + 1 animation)
But now I have to call this one done.
As quick new resolution for the year, I would like to get a short film finished, do more animation exercises and try to come up with more designs for merch on the side.
As for my illustrations; I want to move in a sort of spiritual relaxing island theme, with much vegetation and water. Some new tropical-themed characters will hopefully arrive and Souvillaine will have a new coat.
