Ohh that's a really fun idea!

Could also just make the tar sticky and flammable, and give the mammoth and lich fire immunity and a shitload of fire spells for extra chaos.

Sure, have fun! I'm not hugely experienced in dnd so idk if making a caveman fire connection thematically with the lich would work, but there's a link to an accompanying ancient tar lich design in the description if you need it.

personally it kinda works if you go for a homebrew (concept used in making your own spin) and it makes pretty much clear cut i might make this a race in my personal tabletop, the netheran :D
