Mostly because now he'll feel obligated to let Karry play with him a bit, since he was her present and all lol
That and sitting under the tree all night is boring.

Yeah, he'd try not to admit it but being found and played with was actually quite nice and certainly more fun than sitting and waiting.
Even if quadrupeds playing with plushies tends to be a bit different (read: more teeth) to bipeds. Don't worry though, Karry knows to be gentle with her toys lol.

She's one of the characters of the artist, and iirc she just has this thing where anyone she hugs turns into a plushie lol
Not even that intentional on her end, though she doesn't know how to turn them back...
Thankfully John and Karry do, hence why he got sent to them for Christmas lol
And of course, she's a fox too after all, she can be sneaky if she wants to.

John's my main character/fursona, the three are friends and attend the 'Lunar Academy' which is a shared setting with a friend and a lot of other people's characters.
TLDR a lot of the characters in that setting go way more permenant than these three like to, so they watch eachother's backs while also having some fun with eachother.
As an example I made a short story referencing a running joke where John keeps getting turned into welcome signs/statues lol:
